08-12-2010 - Update on Fred McNeal
Thanks again for your prayers and for all the cards from the class of 59. It is great to hear from you all.
I want to bring you up to date on what happened after I saw you last month.
I went to Cleveland on Tuesday for my regular follow up and to see the doctor. My counts are good and I got the chest port removed and a bone marrow. (a fun day)
They told me that they would get with me next week and go over the study and any questions I may have. Well, on Wednesday (08/04) they called and asked us to be there Thursday for blood work (complete blood work) and see the doctor. We got there and did all the good stuff and saw the doctor. After a lot of questions, I am now on the Gleevec study. This study is for one year and Novartis covers the R/X and a once a month follow up. I started taking the med. Thursday with the largest meal of the day, a large glass of water and six 100 mg. tablets of Gleevec. As of today I only have 357 days to go. The reason for six tablets is if there are any side affects, they can reduce it and I can still be in the study.
I also go to the Salem Hospital for my regular blood work every two weeks and they will fax it to Cleveland. If all goes well (with the Lords help) and it will, I will only go to Cleveland once a month.
