05-31-2011 - 70th Birthday Party Weekend
Happy 70th Birthday Salem High School Class of 1959!!
It’s 2011, the year most of us in the Class of ’59 will be turning 70. To celebrate the occasion we are planning a weekend of events August 19, 20, and 21, 2011.
Friday, August 19, 2011 - a pizza party at the home of Mary Lou and Gary Hartzell on Southridge Drive, south of Salem. Pizza, beer and pop will be furnished. BYOB for those wanting something other than soda, beer or water. The party will begin at 7:00 P.M.
Saturday, August 20, 2011 – “The Birthday Party” at the home of Raymond Bricker on Goshen Rd., north of Salem. The party will begin at 1:00 P.M. We will start serving food at 2:00 P.M.
·Covered dish picnic lunch: corn-on-the-cob, hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, condiments and table settings will be furnished. BYOB for those wishing to have more than a soda or water.
·Classmates with last names beginning with the letters A-L are asked to bring a dessert that will serve about eight people. Classmates with the last names beginning with the letters M–Z are asked to bring a side dish serving eight people. Side dish suggestions include potato salad, baked beans, fruit, vegetables, etc. It is not a requirement that you bring a covered dish in order to attend the birthday picnic. We would like everyone to attend, out-of-towners and locals.
·There will be games and activities throughout the afternoon.
·A class picture will be taken for which there will be a charge.
·Socializing from 1:00 P.M. until whenever.
Sunday, August 21, 2011 – breakfast at the Salem Hills Golf Club on Rt. 45 north of Salem, 9:00 A.M.
In order for us to have an idea of how many people will be attending each Birthday Weekend event, we are asking that you contact Henry Lieder and tell him which event(s) you will attend and how many people there will be. You can reach Henry at hlieder@aol.com, 330-633-0351 or 175 Tallwood Dr., Tallmadge, OH 44278. You can see who plans to attend by visiting our website, www.salemhighschool1959.com, first clicking on “Reunions” and then “70th Birthday Party Who’s Coming” at the bottom of the reunion events on the right side of the screen. The list will be updated every Monday.
Most of you are aware that the Salem Preservation Society is working on a project to restore and rebuild the Reilly Stadium wall along Pershing Street in Salem. Since many of us in the Class of ’59 have fond memories of our Friday evenings at Reilly Field, it is our expectation that we will be making a class donation towards this project. Our 70th Birthday Weekend will be an appropriate time to take up a collection for our class donation.
We are looking forward to seeing you all at our 70th Birthday Weekend!
