11-21-2012 - Our Classmate Lou Slaby and Super Storm Sandy
Perhaps there are other classmates out there who weathered Sandy as Lou and Ginny have.... if there are, will you share your experiences with us? Following is a copy of an e-mail that Lou sent to Ray Esterly on November 3, 2012. We're glad you are doing well Lou.
Hi Ray. Thanks for your concern. Ginny and I are fine. We have no real damage to our property. A couple of big trees fell in the rear of our (wooded) yard, but thank God they fell toward our house and not over our neighbor’s fence and onto their deck and house. A lot of trees are down. A lot of damage in our area, but it pales to the damage at the Jersey shore.
Our house is still without power. I was able to take a shower at my fitness club this morning. They just had power restored. Power was restored to my office yesterday afternoon while I was on my way to New York State to get gas for one of our cars and for the electrical generators that we have at home. The day before, Ginny and I waited for five hours in a line to get gas. The station ran out of gas three cars ahead of us. Ginny and I are now in my office staying warm and catching up with our emails. Conditions are a little chaotic right now, but, hopefully, within a couple of days things will be back to normal for us. People along the Jersey shore? That is another sad, sad story.
